The Italian Tug Association Assorimorchiatori, organized an event on the 12th of October to present to the public the recently published book “Towline connected – Un servizio in concorrenza per la sicurezza”.
The new publication compiles a set of pictures of tugs at work and academic articles describing the importance of the sector for the Italian society and economy. The objective of this new book is to highlight and explain the services and public goods that the towage industry generates, as well as its constant efforts to reach the highest standards in safety, technical development and seafarer´s efficiency.
The Association organized the event at the Museo Centrale Montemartini in Rome, a perfect setting for the launch of this book as the museum brings together eras of Roman history. The Association brought together players of the Italian towage industry, representatives of the Italian government such as Luigi Merlo, adviser to the Minister of Transports and Infrastructure who was also a speaker; and several officers representing the maritime institutions.
During the occasion, Mr. Luca Vitiello, President of Gesmar Group and Assorimorchiatori intervened to demand a clearer legislative framework at the EU and Italian level refering to the recently adopted Market Access and Transparency Regulation. Furthermore, he advocated the concession model for towage in the Italian ports and how they work within the specific framework of port organisation in Italy.
